The new Acer Aspire 5 Ryzen model is available in almost half-dozen configurations, ranging from a $350 (list price), to the somewhat basic model we’re reviewing all the way to the $750 for a considerably beefier Octa-core Ryzen 7 model with a healthy 12GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, and AMD Radeon graphics.

Most of these Aspire 5 versions boast a 15.6-inch display, but we’ve at least seen a mix of 1080p and 720p resolutions.

Acer Aspire 5 Display

The 15.6-inch display on this Acer Aspire 5 is spot-on; rated at 267 nits the Full HD (1920 x 1080) is bright enough for daily productivity and entertainment. Of course, we’ve seen far brighter screens (about 300 nits and higher) in more costly laptops, but anything above 250 nits is great for a budget model like this. Surprisingly, the Core i7-equipped Aspire 5 has a far dimmer screen despite costing about $200 more.

You’ll also love the display’s 1080p resolution, which is very ideal for a screen this size. Its uses IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology to deliver impressive viewing angles, making it easy to collaborate or share the screen with a colleague.

Acer laptop Battery Life

The Ace Aspire 5 comes with a 48Wh 3-cell Li-ion battery, which Acer rates at 10 hours of battery. In real-world use, that involves continuous web surfing over Wi-Fi at 150 nits of brightness, the laptop lasts 7 hours 53 minutes, which isn’ t bad for a budget laptop.
