Asus Zenfone 9 coming soon. From pricing and availability to specs, here's what to expect from the Zenfone 9 series.

The Asus Zenfone 8 series boasts a compact size, high-end performance, and a budget-friendly price point. The handset will be replaced soon by the Asus Zenfone 9. We don’t have a lot of information about Zenfone 9 yet, but we do know some things and what we hope to see.

Asus Zenfone 9 Price & Specs

Is there a long-awaited Asus Zenfone 9 coming out?

There are leaks and renders that the Zenfone 9 has already started coming out, but we’re not sure if it will be released in one year or not. There is likely to be a new variation of a pop-up camera, which was seen in last year’s models.

When is the Asus Zenfone 9 release date?

We don’t know when the Asus Zenfone 9 is launching yet, but we do know this is what happened last year. The Zenfone 8 was released in May, while the 7 series came out in late August. There’s a large window for release, but here are the previous models’ launch dates to help you time your expectations:

Launch:

     Asus Zenfone 6 — May 16, 2019

     Asus Zenfone 7 — August 26, 2020

     Asus Zenfone 8 — May 13, 2021

There has been no official announcement on the Zenfone 9's release, but it is expected that it will be released in the summer. They are likely to have a shorter wait time between when they are announced and when consumers can get their hands on them.

Which features are available on the Asus Zenfone 9?

The game is on, and competition is heavy among phone companies. The regular Asus Zenfone 9 will occupy the cheaper price point while returning to the flip-camera model commands a slightly higher price tag.

Design

The Zenfone 8 Flip is not confirmed to have a triple rear camera setup, but it will likely have a 50MP sensor and 12MP ultrawide sensor. The front of the phone may also be revealed this year.

Asus has always made its phones affordable and has not skimped on the build materials. Based on their history, you can expect an Asus phone to have a handsome glass and metal design, along with an IP68 rating against water and dust. The 3.5mm headphone jack is a staple of asus' design and we fully expect it to stick around this time.

Asus Zenfone 9 Features

The new Zenfone will likely have the same back-tap functionality as the Google Pixel 6. It has not been reported what its functionalities are, or if it can be customized.

There are rumors that the Zenfone 9 will have a 120Hz AMOLED panel in a 5.9-inch size and a 30% larger battery capacity, lasting longer than a regular day without charging.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will likely have up to 16GB of RAM and 5G access. However, the mmWave feature may not be present.

Is the Asus Zenfone 8 worth buying?

It’s been a year since Asus introduced its Zenfone 8 line, priced at more affordable prices than in the past. Historically, the prices were on the lower end of the market.

     Asus Zenfone 7 — €699 (~$830)

Asus Zenfone 7 Pro retails for €799 (~$950)

     Asus Zenfone 8 — from $629

     Asus Zenfone 8 Flip — from €799 (~$970)

Asus has sat below other high-end players in the market, so we might expect a similar price range. They are rumored to have new technology, which might change the price.

What we Want to See in the Asus Zenfone 9

The Asus Zenfone 8 series was under the radar, but the Zenfone 8 left a big impression as one of the best smartphones of 2021. The Zenfone 8 Flip made modest improvements over the preexisting Zenfone 7 series but is far from done. Here are some suggestions for what to expect in the upcoming Zenfone 9 series in 2022.

Get to market faster and more widely

The release of the Zenfone 8 phone was scattered, and people faced difficulties finding the Flip variant in America. Europe and UK markets had a ton more options available.

We’re excited to see the Zenfone 9 coming out. Furthermore, wider availability would extend the deployment to all of India and not just the major cities.

What the Zenfone 9 price is, and whether it should stay the same

The Zenfone 8, at $629, was the best phone for its price as it was water-resistant, not to mention its size.

Asus should change their pricing to a lower price because the Zenfone 9 was well worth it in the first place, or their price shouldn't change at all. The price should be lowered if it is just an iterative upgrade with a new chipset.

The phone costs €799 (~$913) to start. Though we can see why, with more advanced features, like a telephoto camera or bigger battery. The Zenfone still offers plenty of exclusive features like improved Gorilla glass, a higher refresh rate, and a headphone jack.

The best ways to bring wireless charging

One notable premium feature missing from Zenfone 8 phones was wireless charging. Wireless charging (which can be found on premium-priced devices) is more prominent than ever, and it seems like a step back that the Zenfone 8 Flip doesn’t have the capability.

The compact size of the phone prevented the inclusion of a fingerprint sensor. Apple’s new SE 2022 model and Google Pixel 6 have it. we think that Asus should offer a fingerprint sensor in their Zenfone 9 if they release one.

Asus phones have at least three years of OS update

Asus has been working diligently to release Android 12 but there's a lot of work left. They have very poor software support which is unusual in the tech industry.

Companies like Xiaomi, Samsung, and OnePlus are already promising three years of OS updates. We want Asus to commit to the same kind of policy. They should also provide updates to their Zenfone 8 series and the Zenfone 9 series.

The company should deliver security patches for at least four years. This would match Google’s older Pixel model, although Samsung’s flagships and the most recent Pixel make 6 offer of five years of patches.

Asus Zenfone 9 camera: Improve images and video

The Zenfone 8 series, while good, did not excel in photography. The only exception was the main shooter that took quality photos but didn't exceed expectations.

We noticed that the only difference between the two phones was in the telephoto camera. We're OK with this decision if it means keeping costs down.

Asus needs to improve the main and ultrawide image quality on both phones. One way they could do that is to use Qualcomm's latest imaging tech, or by introducing better hardware; for example, better sensors and OIS.

Keep the headphone jack and IP68 rating

The Asus Zenfone 8 was the first flagship phone to include a headphone jack, as well as an IP68 rating.

It's best to keep features that work on the Zenfone 9 unchanged. The company should also bring back a headphone jack on the Zenfone Flips.

We do not know if the Zenfone 9 Flip will have an IP68 rating or not, but splash resistance would be a desirable feature. With Samsung managing to bring water resistance to their foldable, some form of water resistance could likely be applied to the Zenfone 9 Flip despite the rotating camera.
